Well, if you like playing detectives, then play one. A hard-boiled noirish
Decker-like detective (okay, technically he was a bounty hunter, but 90% of
the time he was tracking down the rogue replicants, and that was pure
detective work) would fit injust fine. And the nice thing about detectives,
is that their clients can bring almost any plotline you desire right to them
withotu any further explanation of why they are getting involved.
We already seem to developing a plethora of esper PC's, so I suggest you go
with someone with some basic cyberware instead. Given his profession, I'd be
thinking about cybereyes with lowlight and telescopic capability, linked to
a video recorder (basically eidetic memory for vision only) so he can record
everything he sees on a chip in his skull. Add a Datajack, so he can plug
into a computer and download it for delivery to the client. Perfect for
catching cheating spouses in the act! He might also find a skilljack useful,
so he can quicly plug in a new skill if it looks like a particular case is
going to need it. I don't see such a character having a lot of combat
augmentation (although he probably would be a capable brawler and pistol
shot) but he might have a War Gland installed to give him a quick boost for
those occasions when the fecal material strikes the rotating air impeller.
Alternatively, there is absolutly no reason you couldn't go with someone who
has no augmentation at all. You don't have to be ahopped up copmbat monster
to be a fascinating character in Kazei 5. One of my favorite characters is
Sarah K. Ferrari, and she is little more than a domestic synth with an
interesting job and an attitude.
