[K5pbem] My Thoughts On Restarting the K5 PBEM

Jeff and I discussed this the other night. I will try to send you a character concept by next weekend.

I am working on getting someone else hooked, He has never played Hero (D20 :(), but imo has an appropriate set of thought processes for the world. ;)

The character I have long wanted to play would ideally have something I don't know how to write up. If I had to, I could basically just use it in flashbacks and such to when he had all his components, and say that was taken when he was demilitarized.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make a cyborg who ALSO has a "combat computer/AI) that can
1)navigate/perform research/other such acts
2)operate some subset of his weapons while he operates the rest
3)Execute evasion subroutines if he is knocked out, for instance
4) keep watch while he is sleeping.

I could write up an AI, but then, how to incorporate it? I looked at the Bestiary writeup for a Hydra, to see if that would work, but I don't think that is quite it.

I don't really like the Ettin writeup, where two heads just gives extra perception and better two handed fighting, but I suppose I could do something like that, giving the character 2 extra speed, limited to offensive/internal actions only, not movement, and enhanced perception, then two weapon fighting, ranged or some such. I am not really happy with that though.

My initial thought was that the Cyborg would have about a 4 speed, but the AI would have a separate speed of probably 2.

One tactic I envisioned was an assault on a target, and he would order the AI to engage in suppressive fire with a grenade launcher or machine gun while he ran and engaged with the primary weapons.

Subject: [K5pbem] My Thoughts On Restarting the K5 PBEM

Here are my thoughts on the whole K5 PBEM reboot.

1) We don't need to settle on one specific place. While I like the idea of
using Hong Kong (it has a lot going for it as a center for PC interaction)
there is nothing stopping people from placing themselves in different
locations. That said, some locations will be (IMO) less useful than
others. Downtown LA, for example, was hit by a home-made nuclear weapon
early in the 21st Century and is mostly a crater and ruins surrounded by
urban sprawl (think the scenes from the opening of AKIRA the manga).
London seems too passive to me -- not enough tension. Moscow would have
scads of tension, since it's not the most stable place, but it is also out
of the way in a geographical sense. Hong Kong has Mega-Tokyo tp the north,
war-town China to the east, and Singapore, SE Asia, and Australia to the
south.

2) We need to determine a play style. How often do turns occur? Do we need
or want character sheets? How do we determine interactions and plots? Is
there a Game Master? If so, who? And what will the GM do?

At the very least, as the guy who created the world and am still
developing it, I should have some sort of authority to accept/decline PCs,
NPCs, technology, and plots. People should (I hope) come to me to ask
about in-game concepts for people, places, and things, and I can say
either 'yay' or 'nay,' depending.

3) We need to determine what parts, if any, of the website need an
overhaul. The game introduction needs work, if only to reflect the new
play style. If this is done, I need to know what it should say, or someone
out there could type up new data for me to enter.

4) We need to create a message board. Dustin can help with this, and I
think it would be a good place to discuss plot concepts and the like.

5) We need to overhaul the PC/NPC section. Remove the PCs who are not
being used, enter new PCs, and do the same for the People, Places, and
Things entries. Players should make an attempt to send me short
descriptions of characters they've created so others can read about and
use them.

6) I need to clean up the Timeline I have written and make available the
Writer's Guide I have developed. This should get posted and/or emailed out
to the list at large, so everyone will know where I am coming from. The
Timeline, however, is very fluid, and is open to editing. For example, I
want to wipe-out New Orleans (due to a hurricane in 2005), turning it into
a flooded city (anyone who has seen GHOST IN THE SHELL will understand),
and I want to use Bird Flu to help eliminate people in China and SE Asia
(thus explaining some of the genetic tinkering to develop immunities).

7) We need to recruit new people, stressing that this is an interactive
shared world, not a classic PBEM "game." Knowledge of HERO is not
required, simply a plus. There are plenty of us here who can develop HERO
character sheets for PCs if needed.

Thoughts?

If violence isn't the answer then I don't understand the question
