I don't have much to add for the others - but for this guy - one last 
thing to add that seems perfect. Make him the "scrounger". The guy who 
has "connections" that the others might not have or think of. He's 
ex-Royal Navy? The thought immediately sprung to my mind of a Cockney 
version of "Klinger" from M.A.S.H.  Actually, the version of Klinger 
from the later seasons of the show, when he had stopped wearing the 
dresses and taken over for Radar as company clerk.

Our Cockney engineer has all sorts of ways to get parts and things for 
the "loverly bird" that are under the books and skirt the edges of 
legality. He always has either some form of blackmail hold over some 
supply clerk in the Royal Navy somewhere, or knows something that said 
clerk desperately wants/needs and that the Airracuda crew either has or 
can easily get for trade for what he wants.

I can easily see him getting into arguments with the Vietnamese/French 
Business Manager, because she wants to keep better track of costs and 
such and he just doesn't much give a damn as long as it gets done and 
the "bird" can keep flying.
