Hmmm... Taking a cue from Ghost in the Shell - Maybe even telepresensed
bodies? In other words - your main body or braincase is at one location
and you control another body at a different location.
Motoko did this sort of thing in the Stand ALone Complex TV series as
well as the GITS 2 Manga series. The main difference being - in GITS:
SAC, it was shown to be pretty much a one-at-a-time deal, where she'd
not be able to do anything with her main body while controlling the
other. In the manga, once she'd merged with the Project 2501
conciousness, she was able to telepresence - or maybe even effectively
copy and download her ghost - into multiple bodies at once. Collating
her memories and experiences later when the bodies upload their ghost
copies to the original. (A bit like the Tachikomas, actually). At least
that's how I interpreted that.
